A syllabus tells you what can be examined. The paper decides how studies are combined, which methodology matters, and what evaluation earns the mark.
Biological, cognitive, social, learning, and psychodynamic approaches each offer a different lens. The question tells you which one to use — but only if you read it before recalling the study.
The examiner rewards accurate description of aims, procedures, findings, and conclusions — not a name dropped without context.
Identify the research method, the sampling technique, the type of data collected, and the ethical considerations — using the correct terminology.
State the point, explain why it matters, and link it back to the study or approach. "It lacks ecological validity" is not enough — say why and what that means for the findings.
The question often provides a context. Use the psychological knowledge to explain the behaviour described, not to write a general essay on the topic.
Evaluate the use of laboratory experiments in psychological research. Refer to at least one study in your answer. [8 marks]
"Lab experiments are good because they are controlled but bad because they are artificial."
Laboratory experiments allow control of extraneous variables, increasing internal validity. However, the artificial setting may reduce ecological validity. Loftus and Palmer's leading questions study demonstrates high control over the IV, but the task of watching video clips differs from witnessing a real accident, limiting generalisability.
The better answer is not valuable because it is longer. It connects the evaluation point to a specific study and explains the consequence.
Choose the evidence, identify the methodology, evaluate it properly and apply the Psychology to the scenario in front of you.
Decide which study, finding or psychological approach the question actually needs.
Identify the research method, sampling, data and methodological detail using the correct terminology.
Go beyond naming a strength or weakness: explain why it matters and what it does to the conclusion.
Use the Psychology to explain the scenario given instead of writing a general answer about the topic.

Her course is built around a recurring problem: a student can recall the study, remember the findings, and still lose the mark through weak evaluation, missing methodology, or a generic application.
Progress is not how many studies you can recall. It is knowing which evidence to use, how to evaluate it and where to apply it.
Understand each psychological approach and the research methods that test its claims.
Learn the aims, procedures, findings, and conclusions of each study — then practise evaluating them under exam conditions.
Apply psychological knowledge to real-world contexts with the structure and terminology the mark scheme expects.
I would not have gotten an A in Business and Psychology if it were not for Alt. Being a private student, finding Alt Academy was truly a blessing.
A big thanks to Sir Yawer's lecture videos in the crash course. My concepts were cleared and for the first time in my life I never ended up falling asleep while gaining knowledge.
The solved past papers were really REALLY helpful. Looked at Psychology's solved past paper and got a similar question in the exam.
