Remembering a study is different from
knowing how to evaluate it.

Learn how to use what you know to describe, apply, compare and evaluate instead of simply repeating the study.

How Zenab reads a Psychology question

Before answering, find the five things hidden inside the question.

A syllabus tells you what can be examined. The paper decides how studies are combined, which methodology matters, and what evaluation earns the mark.

01 / The approach

The approach frames the explanation.

Biological, cognitive, social, learning, and psychodynamic approaches each offer a different lens. The question tells you which one to use — but only if you read it before recalling the study.

02 / The study

Know what the study found, not just who did it.

The examiner rewards accurate description of aims, procedures, findings, and conclusions — not a name dropped without context.

03 / The methodology

Method marks require methodological language.

Identify the research method, the sampling technique, the type of data collected, and the ethical considerations — using the correct terminology.

04 / The evaluation

A strength without elaboration is not an evaluation.

State the point, explain why it matters, and link it back to the study or approach. "It lacks ecological validity" is not enough — say why and what that means for the findings.

05 / The application

Apply the Psychology to the scenario given.

The question often provides a context. Use the psychological knowledge to explain the behaviour described, not to write a general essay on the topic.

Original practice question
[8]

Evaluate the use of laboratory experiments in psychological research. Refer to at least one study in your answer. [8 marks]

Plausible, but too vague

"Lab experiments are good because they are controlled but bad because they are artificial."

A more exact answer

Laboratory experiments allow control of extraneous variables, increasing internal validity. However, the artificial setting may reduce ecological validity. Loftus and Palmer's leading questions study demonstrates high control over the IV, but the task of watching video clips differs from witnessing a real accident, limiting generalisability.

The better answer is not valuable because it is longer. It connects the evaluation point to a specific study and explains the consequence.

FROM STUDY TO ANSWER

Knowing the study is only useful if you know what the question wants from it.

Choose the evidence, identify the methodology, evaluate it properly and apply the Psychology to the scenario in front of you.

PICK THE EVIDENCE

Lesson objective + Skill Check

Decide which study, finding or psychological approach the question actually needs.

Zenab Tariq · Psychology

Zenab teaches Psychology beyond memorising the study.

Her course is built around a recurring problem: a student can recall the study, remember the findings, and still lose the mark through weak evaluation, missing methodology, or a generic application.

The standard

Progress is not how many studies you can recall. It is knowing which evidence to use, how to evaluate it and where to apply it.

01Approaches & Methods

Understand each psychological approach and the research methods that test its claims.

02Core Studies

Learn the aims, procedures, findings, and conclusions of each study — then practise evaluating them under exam conditions.

03Applied Psychology

Apply psychological knowledge to real-world contexts with the structure and terminology the mark scheme expects.

I would not have gotten an A in Business and Psychology if it were not for Alt. Being a private student, finding Alt Academy was truly a blessing.

A big thanks to Sir Yawer's lecture videos in the crash course. My concepts were cleared and for the first time in my life I never ended up falling asleep while gaining knowledge.

The solved past papers were really REALLY helpful. Looked at Psychology's solved past paper and got a similar question in the exam.

01
Can I self-study A Level Psychology with this course?

The route is designed for independent study: teaching, chapter notes, Skill Checks, worksheets, revision resources, and past-paper support are connected in sequence. The student still has to attempt the work and return to mistakes.

02
Does every chapter include more than video?

Yes. The product route connects focused lessons with checks, notes, worksheets, questions, and corrections. Exact resource coverage can vary by chapter, so the course player should remain the source of truth.

03
What is the difference between Solo Monthly and Solo Exam Pass?

Both cover one subject. Monthly is billed one month at a time and does not require a fixed sitting. Exam Pass is one payment for access through one named sitting.

04
When does All Access make more sense?

When the student needs two or more of the included A Level subjects. It covers the full included set and can be selected as Monthly or a sitting-specific Exam Pass.

05
Do I buy Recorded again with Live?

No. Matching recorded Psychology access is included in the Live plan. The cart deliberately keeps one plan at a time so the student is not charged twice.

06
Does the course teach evaluation technique specifically?

Yes. Evaluation is taught as a skill throughout — not just as a list of strengths and weaknesses. The course practises structured evaluation paragraphs using the terminology and depth the 9990 mark scheme rewards.

The evaluation that earns the mark

QUESTION

Evaluate the use of laboratory experiments in psychological research.

DO NOT WRITE

"Lab experiments are controlled but artificial."

WRITE THE EVALUATION

State the evaluation point, explain why it matters for the findings, and connect it to a specific study. Generic statements without elaboration do not earn full marks.

The course continues from this explanation into a Skill Check, an exam-style question, and a worked correction.
