How a Physics question is read

Before solving, find the five things hidden inside the question.

A syllabus tells you what can be examined. The paper decides how principles are combined, which conditions matter, and what working earns the mark.

01 / The quantity

Every quantity has a direction. Scalar is not vector.

Before selecting an equation, identify whether the question asks for a scalar or a vector, and whether the quantity is instantaneous or average.

02 / The relationship

Find the equation that connects what you know to what you need.

A Physics problem rarely requires only one formula. The skill is choosing the relationship that links the given quantities to the unknown, then solving without introducing errors.

03 / The conditions

Standard conditions can change the approach completely.

Whether a system is in equilibrium, whether friction is present, whether motion is uniform or accelerated — each condition determines which principles apply and which simplify away.

04 / The working

Clear working can still earn method marks when the final answer is wrong.

Show the substitution, rearrangement and arithmetic clearly so the examiner can follow your method.

05 / The units

Dimensions catch errors that algebra misses.

Checking that both sides of an equation have the same dimensions is faster and more reliable than re-reading working. Convert all values to SI before substituting.

Original practice question

A ball is thrown horizontally from a cliff 80 m high at 15 m/s. Calculate the time to reach the ground and the horizontal distance travelled.

Plausible, but incomplete

"Use s = ut + 1/2 at^2 and get the answer."

A more exact answer

Vertical: s = 1/2 gt^2, so 80 = 1/2 (9.81) t^2, giving t = 4.04 s. Horizontal: d = vt = 15 x 4.04 = 60.6 m. The horizontal and vertical motions are independent; the horizontal velocity does not affect the time to fall.

The better answer is not valuable because it is longer. It separates the two independent motions and shows the working that earns each mark.

Can I self-study A Level Physics with this course?

The route is designed for independent study: teaching, chapter notes, Skill Checks, worksheets, revision resources, and past-paper support are connected in sequence. The student still has to attempt the work and return to mistakes.

Does every chapter include more than video?

Yes. The product route connects focused lessons with checks, notes, worksheets, questions, and corrections. Exact resource coverage can vary by chapter, so the course player should remain the source of truth.

What is the difference between Solo Monthly and Solo Exam Pass?

Both cover one subject. Monthly is billed one month at a time and does not require a fixed sitting. Exam Pass is one payment for access through one named sitting.

QUESTION

INCOMPLETE ANSWER

Use s = ut + 1/2 at^2 and get t = 4 s, distance = 60 m.

FULL WORKING

Vertical: s = 1/2 gt^2, so 80 = 1/2(9.81)t^2, giving t = 4.04 s. Horizontal: d = vt = 15 x 4.04 = 60.6 m. The two motions are independent.
